Packing is finally done! Tomorrow is the big day—we’re heading down to Cancun, and we get to test out Porter’s brand-new route right from Hamilton (YHM).
They actually just launched this route last month (around December 17th), so it’s still fresh. It’s a huge win for us because flying out of Hamilton is so much less stressful than dealing with the chaos at Pearson. We can just hop in a cab, breeze through the smaller security lines at YHM, and be on our way.
The Aircraft: Embraer E195-E2
We’ll be flying on the new Embraer E195-E2 jets. I’ve read up on them, and they sound fantastic compared to the usual cattle-car experience:
- No Middle Seats: The configuration is 2-by-2, so since it’s just the two of us, neither of us has to fight for an armrest with a stranger.
- Quiet & Modern: Supposedly, these are the quietest single-aisle jets on the market, with huge windows and larger overhead bins (so no anxiety about gate-checking carry-ons).
The Service: "Flying Refined"Porter really leans into their "elevated economy" vibe, even for these longer sun flights.
- Free WiFi: They have free, fast WiFi for everyone (not just VIPs), so I can stream movies or stay connected the whole way down.
- Food & Drink: They serve free beer and wine in actual glassware (not plastic cups!) and give out those premium snacks. Since the flight is a bit longer, they also have fresh meals—if we booked the PorterReserve fare, meals are included; otherwise, we can buy them on board with the PorterClassic ticket.
It feels like we’re getting a head start on the relaxation before we even land in Mexico. Can’t wait to trade the Ontario winter for the beach tomorrow afternoon!
